In the final sign of the zodiac, Pisces, we see the symbolic binding together of
two fish pulling in opposing directions.
Within each of us are two primary motivators: Separation from the Oneness and
Reunion with the Oneness.Separation is associated with the development of the individual ego, the sense
of being a unique entity, and ultimately the tendency to think of oneself as
that ego.
Reunion is the urge to surrender the sense of separateness and merge or melt
into the Oneness, obliterating the sense of separate specialness.
These two drives are operative every moment. Each and every thought and
behavior includes them, consciously or unconsciously. More often the drives
operate unconsciously, and then we may have a rationalized "reason" for our
actions, to explain it to ourselves and others, but the two motivators are
omnipresent.
To benefit creatively, spiritually - to evolve as humans requires that we
exercise the free will needed to bring these urges into our awareness. This
requires effort, as there is no such thing as automatic transcendence.
As the final sign in the zodiac, Pisces asks, "Now you are to make of yourself a
seed containing the essence of what you have become thus far. It is necessary to
discard everything not of your essence so you may be reborn unencumbered by
excess baggage. Do you know what your essence consists of?"
This question is asked and answered on various levels throughout life, moment to
moment. It's our job to be awake enough to respond creatively.
