Congratulations!
You have found my website, and in my heart I know that if you are one of the
people who can understand what you have found, you will benefit from the loving
intent with which my shared efforts are infused.
Welcome. William Medford, Astrologer
My first formal training was
with the Astrologer/Herbalist Jean San Carlos in Ventura, California. I
immediately knew, from Jean, that my style of presentation would be
like hers: flamboyant, enthusiastic, fun, and absolutely self-assured. I have met many
other teachers and practitioners since then (1972) but none have so
powerfully expressed confidence in the rightness of their path as did Jean.
During this period, some of
Jean's students gathered at the Theosophical Library in Ojai, California, to
study together and have access to the library's extensive collection of
Astrology books. That is where I met my next teacher, the legendary Marcia
Moore.
Marcia and her family had
moved into Krishnamurti's sprawling mountaintop ashram, and I was invited to
participate in classes, workshops and other "metaphysical gatherings".
Although Ms Moore was one of
the foremost astrologers of that period, and I did learn some astrology from
her, what I really took away from that experience was the awareness,
exemplified by her, that what we were
doing, and the way we thought about things, and what we were excited
about, were all extremely important, and it was crucial to ourselves and to the rest of
existence that we strengthen that perspective. I learned that it was
important to express unabashedly what was important to me, and to
keep my values free of the herd
mentality.
Characteristically, she had
been one of the pioneers of the techniques for what became known as "past
life regression" and she made it a point to teach the techniques to as many
others as possible, so it wouldn't fall into the hands of "the few".
My early
Astrology education, was a self-guided tour. I drove
myself mercilessly through the writings of Dane Rudhyar, whose style of
presentation squeezed concentration from his readers or, more usually,
frustration. But the effort always paid off, and my thinking was forever
more right/left brain balanced—wholistic, that is.
Noel
Tyl has emerged as the human flag ship of contemporary astrology.
Thirty-some years ago, I met him briefly in a Holiday Inn
conference room where he patiently fielded questions. I have read and carefully studied most
of what he has written. His Synthesis & Counseling is a must for any
astrologer.
Jeffrey Wolf Green is one of
my contemporaries. We may have had parallel Vietnam experiences, although
his accounts sound more Neptunian-mystic, than my Jupiter-zone philosophic
expansiveness. (see Relocation Astrology)
His books on Pluto have emerged as the first and best at
capturing the essence of the most intense planetary symbol.
Working in Hot Springs with my colleague, Cait Benton (astro-earth-relocation.com),
in the area of
relocation astrology has proven to be
an interesting aspect of the expansiveness of a
solar return seated in the 10th house.
My strategy of following my own nose continues today. The biggest
difference is the explosion of information, and its easy availability,
especially with the growth of the internet. Here I sit, in Hot
Springs, Arkansas, and I can access the same information as if I still lived
urban. Sweet.
This is where I give thanks for all the learning, and all the teachers
and colleagues who made it possible.
